Capturing the moments: the joy of motherhood

I thought it was very fitting that this morning was the first time he's ever deliberately said mamamama (also bababababa). I know he doesn't yet associate that with me, but it was fun nonetheless to hear him say it. These are the moments I don't want to forget.

How could anyone resist falling in love with this little guy?? (Oh, and he's turning into such a flirt at church. Little girls and grandmas, he doesn't discriminate. He cranks up the charm for all.)

I can't think of anything I'd rather be than a little mamacita. I'm also very grateful I get to stay home with him. I wouldn't want to miss out on these times that are so short lived and will never return. We are blessed. He is our little blessing.

This was my favorite:

These are the cutest pictures! My favorite is the one at the very top of your blog. I just love them! Oh, and I totally understand your candy dilema with piano candy. Brent and I always pick out the best ones for ourselves. My kids have stopped buying candy from me, because they have the option to save up for a pizza party (master class) at the end of the semester, which I do for all of them anyway. Then at the party they can use their money to buy....you guessed it....more candy. Oh, I also let them use their beethoven bucks to pass off songs they really dont like. This may sound silly, but it costs them quite a bit, and I remember hating certain songs too! Anyway, I would love to hear more of what you do with your students, because its always fun to change things up a bit. What have you done for recitals that gets students excited for them?

Lindsay, RJ, and Erin-Thanks!!

Michelle-I really need to do a master class, but I don't. How do you find a time when everyone can come?? I can barely find a time slot for each child. Kids (and families) here are so busy. This is actually my first recital ever on my own. Most of the kids are excited just for that reason. I hope it goes ok. I think I'll be handing out awards at the recital. Haven't decided yet.

Cass-He came needing a lot of sleep. In the beginning he was always extremely tired, but fought sleep a ton. He was not good at self soothing at all, and he didn't take a pacifier, so he struggled.

After about 3 months I started sleep training him on naps. When he was tired (rubbing eyes, yawing, cranky) I would put him down for his nap. He would fight it a little (cry about 15-20 min.) and then fall asleep. The older he got and the more consistent I was, he went down easier. Some days he goes down easier than others.

Also, we have a white noise machine that helped in the beginning. I think I'm going to try and wean him off that soon, but it really helped when he woke up easily and couldn't put himself back to sleep.

Around 5 months I started really sleep training him at night. Meaning, I'd put him down and not go back in for aprox. 6 hours, even if he woke up. If he woke up and cried longer than 1/2 hour, I'd have Matt go in and check his diaper (not pick him up). If it was messy we'd change him. If it wasn't we'd come back out. It took him about a month or 1 1/2 months to sleep through the night with only 1-2 wakings.

Honestly, I think most babies his age could/need to sleep 10-12 hours at night with 2 naps in the day, but parents have to be really consistent and strong (don't give in for crying).

these pictures are so cute. what is your secret for getting him to keep his hat on? none of my babies would ever do that!

Start the hats before they have hand control? Na, I don't know. He's always been pretty good about keeping hat and sunglasses on, but just today he wouldn't have the hat. He kept taking it off immediately after I put it on.
