Why I don't watch news anymore

I seriously never watch the news. I rarely read about news stories. The majority of my world news comes from two sources: Leno and Matt. A little pathetic, I know.

Here is why:
  1. I don't want to hear about the mom murdering her babies. I just don't.
  2. I don't care about what celebrity is doing something scandalous. Is this really news?
  3. I'm a little sick about hearing global warming talked to death. Yeah, yeah, yeah. Be kind to the earth. I agree.
  4. I'm tired of hearing about all the shootings and robberies and child molestation.
  5. I honestly don't have much faith in either Presidential candidate and I don't believe half of what either of them says. Even if they are sincere in their beliefs, it seems like a lot of lip service for stuff they don't really have control over as president anyway.

I must say that I watch the news daily. I absolutely hate hearing things from other people and not having a clue what they are talking about.

I do agree about the celebrities. The media seriously needs to re-examine what is newsworthy.

Cass, it will be a sad day when Conan takes over for Leno...On the upside, though, I'll probably get to bed earlier!

Erin, I totally understand that. If something really piques my interest I'll go and read about it after hearing about it so I'm "in the know."

I also forgot to mention that I think fashion segments on news are dumb. I don't think that it's bad to have celebrity news or fashion stuff, just have it on their own show, not on "real" news time.

One of our favorite ways to get only the news we care about is from yahoo or other websites that categorize and let you cut out the fluff and junk that no one cares to know about and just get to the good stuff. I love knowing the news on local politics and community stuff (so that's not on yahoo, but our local news website) also we think the economy news is very interesting and lately we've been reading a lot of stuff about energy solutions.

Jess, that is the most appealing option. I really don't care about politics much unfortunately. I wish I cared more about local and community things.

I'll admit that I read the headlines on the yahoo stuff in my email. If there's something interesting I"ll browse further.

But everything on the local level is:

Texas death row inmate who killed parents...

Penney sees June sales slide 2.4%...

Man fatally shot in Fort Worth...

I-30 wreck causing 4-mile traffic jam...

Condo fire damages four units...

Agency fines owner of closed gas station ...

I just don't care about that really.

Amen! I couldn't agree more. I'm so out of the loop it isn't funny. And my source of new? Brian. and maybe a few other friends. maybe. if they talk about it, ever. oh yeah, and blogs. that's always news to me, and for the most part it's uplifting! :) ;)

I am wih you on the celebrities. I don't care who is divorcing who or whatever.

I don't particuarly like the two running either, but one will win and I have to choose lesser of two evils, I think.

I totally understand. I find it slightly depressing to watch or read too much of what's going on. I went to a BYU devotional right after I got home from the mission where Elder Oaks told us to stay involved in the news and to stay current, even though it's hard sometimes. When I start to get down about the headlines I think, "okay, I suppose I should read it anyways."

I'm right there with you. I never watch the news and I quit taking the paper several years ago. It's all doom and gloom, mayhem and murder. No thanks.
