BB: 20 Weeks, Maternity Skirts, and Ultrasound Results

This post is tri-fold as you can tell by the title. Oh, and I guess I'm sporting my new haircut that I got last week. I love getting my haircut. Too bad I only do it once or twice a year. (I last got it cut April 2008.)

Reminder of 20 weeks my last pregnancy:

20 weeks this time around (sporting my 2 newly made-by-me maternity skirts): Interesting. I look more pregnant in the tan shirt than I do in the white even though they're the same exact shirt (old regular small shade shirts) in different colors. Maybe it's because the blue skirt has elastic and the green doesn't...
I made the green skirt a long time ago (with a pattern) but never really wore it because a) it was a little too big and b) it was a drawstring waist and bunched up in the front at the waist. So I chopped it at the top, took it in 1 inch on the side, and added some jersey knit for a waistband. I am pleased with the results and think it will be worn a lot more as a maternity skirt.

I made the blue skirt this past week or so by drafting my own pattern (thanks to the book Sew What! Skirts) and referring occasionally to See Mommy Sew's instructions. Just a very simple, lined, A-line skirt. I like the feel of the elastic better, but 3-in. elastic is nearly impossible to find. I stole the elastic I used from an old pair of maternity pants I inherited but will never wear.

Here are some front shots of the skirts and the belly bands:

Now, onto our ultrasound results. Since we had an ultrasound at 13 weeks, we had a good idea it was probably a boy, and today that was confirmed. Yes, our second child is a boy. He was not shy one bit about it. He was extremely wiggly and kept burying himself up by my placenta sack, so we couldn't get a good 3-D picture, but overall things are looking just great. The one 3-D picture she snapped made him look like a smiling crazed zombie. We were all busting up at it.

Your bump is so cute and high! I just look extra tubby. I think it's about time I take some tips from you and get serious about maternity wear. I'm still rubberbanding and wearing long shirts, which makes for some very strange-looking bumps and bunching.

Yay, another boy! Now all those cute blue things you got and made for Dean can be reused.

Your skirts are totally cute. My mom got me these cute maternity skirts when I was pregnant, but they were all too short. Fortunately I didn't have to wear maternity dresses for long, otherwise I would've been in trouble. :)

Congrats on another boy. It is great to have the same sex. You get to reuse everything. Now you know that when you buy Dean something nice then his bother will get to use it too. You don't feel so guilty buying clothes or shoes. Cute skirts and very cute bump. I got bigger faster with my second, but then ended the same size in the end.

Congratulations! Your skirts are great. I wish I had your sewing skills.

Thanks everyone.

Erin, honestly, I don't have much in the way of sewing skills. Everything I know I've pretty much taught myself as I've gone along.

The book calls the instructions for the skirts "easiest to easy". The A-line is one of the easiest. The trick is to do the cheap fabric (lining) first to make sure you don't bomb on the more expensive fabric of the skirt. I had to take it in quite a bit after my first attempt at drafting.

well, your sewing is amazing too. i gave up sewing anything that i would wear because i am such a perfectionist and don't quite have the skills to match my pickiness. then i just get mad that i spent so much time on a less than perfect item and never wear it. good job! and yah, those stomach muscles will never be as tight as they were the first time, but your bay bump is super cute.

Dean will have a little playmate! (Well, I suppose that, boy or girl, he'd be getting a playmate out of the deal, but this one will play cars with him.) How fun! Congratulations! Oh, and you're still looking great. Way to go with those skirts.

good job celia. I made a skirt long ago and decided I'd never sew clothes again. never. I'll buy them, they're worth the money and my time. seriously. . . your skirts look awesome though! ;)

Part of my motivation in making skirts is that I've found 0. And I do mean zero (below like $50!). There are a few ugly dress, but nothing more. Plus, things I buy in the store end up being as or more expensive than a skirt I can make, and it's not like they fit me like a glove or anything. I rarely find clothes that fit me "just right". That's probably why I'm not a super perfectionist when I make something.
