Svithe: Fan of the fan chart

Design mom had an inspiring post about family history as art. So inspiring that I actually bought myself a fan chart. And for $10 you really can't beat it in the art department. I will fill it out to the best of my ability, frame it, and hang it. I want to create my own family wall with the chart and old family photos.

I think this picture of my Great Grandma will be a great beginning. I love this photo. She just looks so glam. Family History can be beautiful.

It's cool, too, that I have framed paintings done by my great grandma (the one pictured), my grandma, and Matt's great grandma.

Oh, and I also haven't seen Laura's twig tree. is it like Martha Stewart's?

What a beautiful picture! I love the fan chart. The twig tree is kind of like the Martha Stewart one, except that you hot glue trimmed pieces of branches onto some cardstock and then with a leaf punch, punch enough leaves out for the number of generations you want to do, then write the names of your ancestors on the leaves and glue them to the branches. (Did that make sense?) If you're ever interested I have one you can look at - and two leaf punches. They're super easy.

I am interested. That sounds really neat. I'll have to take a look at it when I drop off your swing (which I need to do. =)

What's a fan chart? I was at a friend's the other day, and they had the coolest picture display on their wall. They had a (rather large) photo of their family, then to each side they had pictures of their parents, then to the side grandparents were stacked...it was like a pedigree chart of framed pictures and was soooo cool.

Click on the fan chart link in the post and it shows you a fan chart. It's a pedigree chart, but it's set up in a half moon formation. It accommodates 9 generations.

Celia,
Last year Brent and I did geneology charts for our parents that were really neat. They were 8 generation, but for two people, right next to each other. They have a tree outline behind the names. Anyway, when we went to order ourselves one, the lady had gone out of buisness and didnt have any more. I was so sad because I had looked to long for them, and now I dont even have one for myself:) The tree thing sounds like a really fun idea though, if you ever do it make sure and post it!
