Let's hope it's not the swine flu!

After a nice 2 hour nap Dean woke up scream-crying which fairly unusual these days. When I opened his door I smelled the rancid puke smell. He and his crib were completely covered. When I got to him he threw up a little more in my hands. I took off his shirt and Matt (who had worked from home because of his foot) filled up a bath. After we took care of him I tossed everything from his crib, stuffed animals and all, in the wash.

I just gave him some juice and started typing this and he threw up juice all over our computer room floor. Other than throwing up, he seems normal. Before we put him in the bath his temp was 98*. After he threw up this second time it was 99*. Hope it doesn't get higher.

As of last night there was only one confirmed case of swine flu in collin county according to the news. Lets hope they weren't at the ER two nights ago when we took Dean!!!!!!

I think we may have to cancel our anniversary date tomorrow night. I guess we'll see...

I think the flu going around is respiratory-related, not stomach. Either way, throwing up is definitely my least favorite thing to deal with with children. Ew. Hope he gets better soon!

Anna just had almost the same exact thing! There's a nasty stomach bug going around our ward like wildfire. Anna's was only a 24 hour bug so I hope Dean's is short too!

My kids have been going through the healthy sick cycle every few weeks lately. Not fun, but I've learned that when they throw up that much you need to worry about dehydration and that the sugar in juice can sometimes encourage diarrhea and throw ups so pedialite (or gatorade/powerade stuff)has less sugar than juice but is still flavored so kids are more likely to drink it and it replaces electrolytes, etc. You likely already knew this, but it was new to me, so I thought I'd share. Good luck, on the bright side his immune system is building up lots of immunities, right? ;)

After he threw up 3 times we called the triage nurse at our pediatrician's. She said she has been swamped with throw up calls from noon on today.

We're pretty sure it's not swine flu (never really thought it was, but it has been reported here so we didn't want to be too lackadaisical about it), but it still stinks. Still not sure if we'll go to church on Sunday, just in case. I'd hate to be a passer on of some stomach bug.

Thanks for the tips Jess. He couldn't keep the juice or water down but he was able to keep powerade down. We'd already tried that after talking to the nurse, but it's still good to know! He threw up 4 times in 3 hours and now he's in bed for the night.

Foxyj, I did your little trick of sheet, water proof cover, sheet just in case he throws up. Quick bed change then.

I feel so bad putting him to bed without having any food or milk since noon! But he's not crying yet, so that's a good sign.

Poor Dean! What a rough week he has had! Sorry for you to have to deal with the throw up. Glad you are past your first trimester. Mom

At first I thought that it was kind of funny that you thought of swine flu right away--that's what the media has done to us!! Then Cannon's mom got a really bad case of the flu right after going on a South American cruise, and of course right away I thought of swine flu. Then she gave it to Boston, and I panicked, thinking that our kids' school was going to be shut down because of US! Well, I did some research, and there aren't many cases of swine flu in Argentina, Uruguay, or Chile, the places where they stopped, so the chances of it being swine flu are pretty slim. Plus, they have mostly had a high fever and not a lot respiratory problems (like swine flu), so I'm thinking that I just overreacted too.

Right around this time they'd just closed all of the fort worth schools, one dallas school, and one plano school. We had just been to the hospital and that's like the worst place to be when a pandemic is breaking out! I didn't really think we had it, but I definitely wasn't going to rule it out and made sure I called the pediatrician asap.
