Dr.'s update

I hope you're not getting sick of all this baby talk and updates!!

I had my 39 week appointment today. It was with a partner of my doctor. 9It was scheduled for 12:45 and I didn't get to see the Dr. until 1:45! It was a long wait today.) Anyway, I am exactly where I was last week. Except with puffy legs and feet that I need to elevate more. I am 1 cm dilated, the baby's still "floating high up" in me. She could barely touch his head. She sent a note to my doctor to give me a call so we can set up an induction date as "plan B". This doctor thought the induction would probably take place the end of next week if he hasn't come by then. But it really depends on my doctor's schedule. (I should probably take a look at the moon calendar too. I don't want to schedule an induction on a full moon because you KNOW that it's going to be full and I'll be bumped.)

I don't mind the idea of being induced. I hope I don't have to be, but if it comes down to it, I'd rather be induced than run out of amniotic fluid, have a baby too big to fit through my birth canal, or have him pass meconium before he comes out.

I just got a call from the Dr's office scheduling me for induction at 5:30 AM Wed. the 24th. I said ok and hung up and had a little panic moment. I didn't think they'd induce me that soon after my due date.

I called them back and asked if we could push it back at all. Wed. the 24th is my doctor's on call day, so that's why they scheduled me for that day. Her next scheduled day is Monday the 29th. I'd be much more comfortable with that. The scheduling lady said she'd have to talk to the Dr. about changing it, so I am now waiting to hear back.

It seems like Doctors lately are so ready to induce, or vote for a C-section and not let things happen naturally. But I guess that beats having a really big baby. But what do I know having never had a baby before!

I hear you on the induction being better than being late. It seems like there is a greater likely hood of having problems when the baby stays in too long. I was induced with my first one - although it was a week early. I didn't have a bad experience at all with it. For one thing, it is nice to just know when the baby is going to come:)

Also, my second baby was a lot smaller than my first and I have to say that as far as delivery and recovery goes - it was MUCH better having a smaller baby. I recovered much faster! Any way it turns out, it is all worth it and I can't wait to hear how things go! Good luck - you will do wonderfully either way!

You look sooo cute Celia! -even though I am sure you are ready to get back to your normal self by now. I understand you on the induction thing- It's nice to go into labor naturally but it's nice to have small babies too. :) I was lucky to have gone into labor with Noah when I did because my doctor was going out of town for a week the day after and he would have been HUGE by then!

Is your mom coming into town to help out? Can I bring you a meal sometime?

i think your sisters will agree thatlater is never better. but if you have any say, ask f you can just get pitocin without them breaking your water like those nurses love to do. you aren't committed until your water breaks, and if the pitocin doesn't work, you can just go home and wait for a few more days instead of having a c-section. i have known a lot of women whose doctors wouldn't consider pitocin without breaking water first, and i seriously don' even get that.

and don't feel bad about writing about you pregnancy and upcoming labor so much this is your blog, and it is understandable that it is pretty hard to think of anything else except the big day.

sorry about the typos. my cordless keyboard is almost out of batteries and leaves out about every other letter.

They had me wait and wait and wait with my first, and poor Josh was 9 lbs and took two hours to push out. The poor little thing had such a puffy face, he looked like a boxer after a match. I thought they let me go too long, so with Ben I made them induce me 1 week before my due date and it was divine! He was so much smaller (7 lbs, 7 oz) and in 15 minutes he was out. I looked at the Dr and said "That's it?" I really was confused because with Josh it took forever and involved lots of pain. With Ben, it was like I sneezed and he flew out.

Good luck with what ever way it happens. Hope all goes well and both Mommy and Baby are happy and healthy.

It's interesting to hear happily induced stories. I've heard some horror stories of inducing . I figure everyone's body responds differently, so I can't really base my labor on either one. But it is a little more calming to go in thinking it could be easier than the alternative of waiting.

I never did hear back from them yesterday. Maybe I'm silly for trying to get it pushed back and should just leave it. I just wish it was even on Thursday or Friday. I really did want to get my piano students in if possible. Matt says I shouldn't take that into consideration because it's not that important, but I hate having loose ends and leaving people hanging if I can avoid it.
